Maintaining your commercial fire sprinkler is more important than you might think. In October of 2018, a small electrical fire stemming from a computer monitor in ASU’s Brickyard complex was put out by the buildings sprinkler system, saving priceless research and millions in technological repairs. Maintaining your commercial fire sprinkler system could end up saving your company thousands of dollars.
In order for your sprinkler system to operate correctly, all components need to be properly installed and maintained. A variety of problems can cause a sprinkler system to fail, such as the main valve being turned off, obstructions in the piping, or damaged sprinkler heads. The National Fire Protection Association code calls for an “annual main drain test” to help ensure that your sprinkler system will operate properly in the event of a fire.
The annual drain test is a system checkup- much like the preventative maintenance service for your automobile suggested by car manufacturers. One of our qualified sprinkler contractors will perform the drain test and examine your sprinkler system to make sure it’s in working order.
They will look at things like whether your system was designed to meet the needs of the building and what it contains, or if there are any parts of the building missing the sprinkler system. You will receive an official sprinkler report after you complete the annual maintenance. This report contains your main drain test results, as well as any deficiencies found in your system.
The piece of mind you’ll get from knowing your sprinkler system will react in an emergency is priceless. On top of that, Buildings with properly designed and maintained sprinkler systems tend to receive a lower insurance premium, which is determined by your fire rating!
